The BLOHM Simplex surface grinding machine is a machine tool for machining surfaces with a geometrically undefined cutting edge. It is used for precise flat and profile grinding of metallic workpieces where tight dimensional, form, and positional tolerances, as well as defined surface qualities, are required.
Construction and operation of the BLOHM Simplex
- Workpiece fixation (central): At the center of the workspace is the electromagnetic clamping table (magnetic chuck). Its function is to warp-free and secure the fastening of ferromagnetic workpieces over the entire support surface, to guarantee flatness and parallelism during the grinding process without mechanical deformation.
- Grinding Spindle & Occupational Safety (Above): Directly above the clamping table is the backlash-free mounted grinding spindle. It is equipped with a massive, round protective cover that encloses the rotating grinding wheel to protect the operator from flying sparks and grinding particles.
- Process cooling (yellow hose): A distinctive yellow coolant hose leads directly to the grinding wheel guard. It feeds the integrated wet grinding system and directs the coolant precisely to the contact zone to effectively prevent thermal stress (grinding burn) on the component.
- Axle Coordination & Delivery (Front): On the front of the machine, massive handwheels are attached. These mechanical controls are used for manual vertical, cross, and longitudinal adjustment, allowing the grinding expert to precisely position the table and spindle to the workpiece in micrometer increments.
- Machine Control (Right): On the right side is the integrated control panel. The main electrical functions are controlled via this central interface with its analog rotary switches, indicator lights, and buttons – including activating the magnetic field, starting the spindle, and controlling the automatic table movement.
