Robust mechanics and defined capacities: Reliable horizontal surface grinding for medium-sized components.

The horizontal surface grinder, type PSG 63 - UAN The Japanese quality manufacturer Okamoto expands our production capacities in the area of machining finishing with geometrically undefined cutting. As a mechanically highly robust machine tool (year of manufacture 1988, total weight 2,500 kg), this system is specifically designed for precise surface and profile grinding of medium-sized workpieces. Its heavy cast iron construction and rigidly guided axes ensure reproducible results in terms of flatness and surface quality in demanding workshop applications.

Constructive Features and Functional Components

  • Machine bed and axis geometry: The vibration-damping cast machine base completely absorbs the cutting forces that occur during the grinding process. The system features generously dimensioned travel paths with a longitudinal table movement of 750 mm and a cross movement of 340 mm. This allows for the machining of workpieces up to a maximum Grinding length of 600 mm and one Grinding width of 320 mm.
  • Extended Workspace (Height): A key feature of the PSG 63 is its vertical clearance: with a maximum permissible Workpiece height of 500 mm Below the grinding wheel, uncommonly tall components, housings, or welded constructions can also be planed and ground reliably on this machine.
  • Powerful Spindle & Grinding Bodies The horizontal spindle is driven by a 3.7 kW driven by a powerful electric motor and operates at a constant spindle speed of 1,500 rpm. It accommodates grinding wheels with a diameter of 350 mm and a width of 40 mm, which guarantees optimal material removal during roughing as well as fine surface finishes during finishing.
  • Dual Control Concept and Automation: The machine has a Automatic delivery axes for cyclic grinding operation and a vertical rapid traverse of 400 mm/min for quick positioning. In addition to the handy rotary switches and indicator lights directly on the front, the system is operated via a separate control panel mounted on the right, which also houses the mechanical red emergency stop button for immediate process interruption.
  • Magnetic chuck & process cooling: Workpieces are fixed free of distortion via an integrated magnetic plate to eliminate mechanical stresses in the material. A powerful cooling system removes process heat directly from the contact zone and prevents local grinding burn or structural changes.

Process engineering application areas:

  • Component and Fixture Construction Thanks to the combination of quick manual setup via the large front handwheels and the automatic feeding function, the system is ideal for flexible grinding of individual components, guideways, or precision spacer plates without the need for programming.
  • Distortion compensation on large parts: Thanks to its mechanical stability, the Okamoto corrects dimensional distortion after thermal processes (such as vacuum hardening) gently and precisely brings even more massive tool steels to the final nominal dimension.
