The Alzmetall AX 2/S is a universal column drilling machine for machining metals and plastics by drilling, countersinking, reaming, and tapping. It is characterized by a purely mechanical drive and analog control, making it particularly robust for demanding workshop operations.

Constructive Features and Functional Components

  • Drive and speed adjustment: The AX 2/S features a continuously variable mechanical adjustment drive. Spindle speed is regulated manually via a control knob on the drilling head and can be precisely adjusted under load. Speed is displayed classically via an analog scale.
  • Analog control unit and occupational safety: The control panel on the front of the drill head includes robust rotary switches for the electrics, as well as the central, mechanical red emergency stop switch for quick interruption of spindle drive. A directly attached blue pictogram reminds the operator of the obligation to wear eye protection.
  • Mechanical drilling depth adjustment: Delivery is manual via the lateral rotary cross. The drilling depth is defined by a mechanical stop with a fine-adjustable millimeter scale, ensuring precise countersink and drilling depths for repetitive manual operations.
  • Stable Column and Table Construction: The heavy cast iron construction absorbs axial forces and vibrations. The machined drill table is height-adjustable via a crank and can be swiveled around the column to flexibly position bulky workpieces or machine vises.

Process engineering application areas:

  • Toolmaking and Special Production Due to the fast, purely manual setup without programming effort, the machine is primarily used for single parts, modifications to existing components, and for prototype and fixture construction.
  • Manual threading: The machine is optionally equipped with a tapping device via reversing contactor control, which initiates the automatic counterclockwise rotation of the spindle upon reaching the set drilling depth.
